Racism Free Zone (tm)Statement
RACISM FREE ZONE™ STATEMENT
Recently there has been an increase in the number of incidents of racial harassment across the country. An act on intolerance has been generally defined as any attempt to injure, harm, malign, or harasses a person(s) because of race, religious belief, color, national origin, age, handicap, or sex. Such behavior includes acts to attempts which may pose physical or psychological harm or threat of such harm to individuals, to groups, or the community. Acts of intolerance differ from other acts of intimidation or criminal behavior because they are motivated by hatred of the characteristics or beliefs of the victims. Acts of intolerance are conscious and deliberate, in contrast to insensitive acts which could be the results of a lack of awareness or education.
As a result of such incidents in our nation, the Racism Free Zone Project™ was created. The idea was to develop a program that would confront racism directly in which could provide alternatives to complicity with racism for students, school personnel as well as other institutions.
